Why VMPF?

Bridging the gap in rural education through innovation and hands-on learning

The Challenge We Address

πŸ“š

Rote Learning

Traditional education in rural schools relies heavily on memorization without understanding core concepts.

πŸ”¬

Lack of Practical Learning

Students rarely get opportunities to conduct experiments or apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«

Limited Teacher Training

Teachers often lack training in modern teaching methodologies and activity-based learning approaches.

🎯

Lost Interest

Many bright students lose interest in science and education due to lack of engagement and practical application.

See Our Impact in Action

Watch how our innovative teaching methods transform rural classrooms. Students engage with hands-on experiments, build creative projects, and develop a genuine love for learning.

This video showcases real moments from our workshops where children discover the joy of science through activity-based learning, turning abstract concepts into tangible understanding.

Our Solution

In 2016, we founded Vidyoday Muktangan Parivar Foundation (VMPF) with a simple yet powerful belief β€” that every child, no matter where they come from, deserves to learn with curiosity, creativity, and confidence. We saw the gap between what children were being taught and what truly prepares them for life β€” and we set out to bridge it.

At VMPF, we are a holistic, impact-driven organization working to transform learning in rural government schools. Our approach goes beyond textbooks β€” we make science come alive through experiments, model-making, and play-based discovery. Alongside academic learning, we nurture life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking, helping children grow into capable, compassionate individuals.

We also partner with teachers, training them to bring Project-Based Learning (PBL) into their classrooms so that learning becomes an experience β€” not a chore. Our mission is to make education joyful, relevant, and empowering, creating ripple effects that strengthen not just schools, but entire communities.

A Call from the Classrooms

Kolhapur has a legacy of progressive and inclusive education, rooted in the social reform vision of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. But despite this history, many rural Zilla Parishad schools still struggle with:

Student with textbook

Rigid textbook-based teaching

Classroom lacking resources

No materials for experiments

Overburdened teachers

Overburdened teachers with little training

Students memorizing without understanding

Disengaged students who memorize without understanding

These challenges aren't unique to Kolhapur β€” they represent the reality across rural Maharashtra. Teachers want to inspire their students but lack the resources and training to do so. Students are curious and capable, but the system doesn't nurture their natural love for learning.

VMPF was founded to answer this call from classrooms β€” to provide practical solutions that work within the constraints of government schools while transforming how children learn.

What Sets Us Apart

Low-cost science models

A toy car that teaches Newton’s third law of motion

Affordable tools that can be used in any school setting. We believe quality education shouldn't be limited by budget. Our 50+ models use locally available, inexpensive materials that any school can afford and maintain..

Hands-on learning kits

Built by local educators, tested in real classrooms. Each kit is designed based on actual classroom needs and refined through direct teacher feedback. This ensures every resource is practical and effective.

Community-rooted approach

Community-rooted approach

We train teachers, work with parents, and build local leadership. Sustainable change comes from within the community. We empower local stakeholders to become champions of educational transformation.

'Learning by Doing' framework

Rooted in constructivist, experiential education. Students don't just hear about science β€” they experience it. This approach builds deeper understanding, critical thinking, and genuine curiosity.

Our Vision for the Next Decade

We dream of transforming all 157 Zilla Parishad schools in Shiroi Tehsil into vibrant, activity-based learning hubs. With our recent entry into 10 schools in Belgavi district (Karnataka), our model is expanding beyond borders.

Our long-term goal is to create a scalable, replicable model of rural STEM education rooted in empathy, relevance, and experimentation.

And we know we can't do it alone. We are building learning manuals, seeking collaborations, and working with education leaders to make this vision a reality.
